Forest conservation projects

Projeto Mejuruà
Estado do Amazonas (Brasil)

In 2021 the Group initiated the strategic development of forest conservation projects on an international scale.

The Mejuruà Project, financed and strategically guided by the Group and operationally implemented through BR Arbo, is the first forest conservation project aimed at supporting the development of the local economy, with the enhancement of existing renewable natural resources in the area.

In addition, BGenera has signed an agreement with the Amazonas State government to adopt the same sustainable forest conservation and management techniques, on other state-owned areas.

Borgo di Perolla

A real estate complex located in Tuscany consisting of an ancient hamlet and one of modern construction, with both residential and hotel use, immersed in a wooded area of 1,300 hectares on which BGENERA is developing a project for environmental conservation and protection as well as sustainable agricultural activities in collaboration with the Scuola Superiore di Sant’Anna (Pisa).

In addition, the project includes a strong reduction in built square meters to make the village more human-scale and in harmony with the environment.

Arbus

Land property of about 1,400 hectares in Sardinia (Costa Verde) on which the development of forest regeneration and sustainable agriculture activities is being planned.

Forest conservation projects under development

BGENERA is developing a robust pipeline of potential new forest conservation projects, and of so-called natural based solutions in three countries and two different continents (Africa and Latin America), where it has advanced negotiations underway to obtain forest conservation concessions and implement natural based solutions.

Venezuela

Estado de Bolivar: In July 2024 BGENERA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of the State of Bolìvar (Governaciòn del Estado de Bolìvar) defining the main terms and conditions for a forest conservation concession over a very large area of Amazon rainforest.

The area was turned into a National Reserve after many decades of mining exploitation and illegal deforestation. BGENERA is considering combining a REDD+ CCB (Climate-Community-Biodiversity) forest conservation project along with a reforestation and restoration project (I’m coming! – Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation) to restore part of the deforested and degraded areas. The feasibility study and remote due diligence began in fall 2024.

Democratic Republic of Congo

Since 2024, BGenera has initiated a process with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for 4 forest conservation concessions in the provinces of Equateur and Mongala and the related preliminary legal, economic, and scientific analysis.

United Republic of Tanzania

In December 2023, BGENERA and the Tanzania Forest Service Agency (TFSA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) setting out the main terms and conditions for a forest conservation concession for an area of 0.5 million hectares in the Myiughe, Miharamulo, and Mkuti areas.

Since July 2024, BGENERA has established direct negotiations with the institutions designated by the President of the Republic for environment and climate change.
